Andy Scott es un escultor de Glasgow que se ha hecho famoso por su obra “The Kelpies”: dos majestuosas cabezas de caballo realizadas con acero de carbono y galvanizadas en cinc , en tono plateado y llenas de vida ubicadas en el Canal de Forth and Clyde cerca de Falkirk en un lado de la carretera que te lleva de Edimburgo a Stirling en Escocia. Cada cabeza tiene una altura de 30 metros y pesan 300 toneladas.

“The Kelpies” es la obra más compleja que ha creado Andy Scott cuya realización costo más de 8 años. Cuando Andy Scott dibujo el primer boceto la idea era hacer que se movieran, una cabeza hacía adelante y la segunda hacía atrás para dar paso a los barcos en el canal del río Carron, pero problemas técnicos como la resistencia al viento y los desafíos de ingeniera que eran muy complejos desembocaron en que fueran unas figuras emblemáticas de Escocia y que se pudieran visitar por dentro.

El trabajo de realizar esta obra es completamente manual y mecánica. La estructura está realizada con tubos de acero y están soldadas encima pequeñas placas de acero consiguiendo dar en todo momento una sensación de movimiento.
